PLEXUS#07. International Archives Week 2025

Are you prepared for the seventh edition of  ICA International Archives Week #IAW2025? Get ready for a week of webinars, lightning talks and workshops under the motto #ArchivesAreAccessible - Archives for Everyone.

In her message to celebrate the International Day and Week of Archives, ICA President, Josée Kirps, states that "we celebrate archives not just as collections of documents, but as doorways to truth, memory and identity." Therefore, accessibility matters. "Archives are powerful and, open to all, they become a true force for justice, inclusion and connection".

ICA has organized a list of lightning talks and webinars to celebrate #IAW2025. Here is a selection of those related to ICA-SAGDAA-WG topics. You can enjoy all of them for free; just register for each meeting on #IAW 2025 website.

The lightning talks have been classified in four categories:

01-Overcoming Barriers to Archive Access

02-Harnessing Technology to Enhance Access

03-Archives in Society: Changing Perceptions

04-Inclusion and Representation in Archival Practices

In category 04 we can follow the presentation "Between Private and Public: Ethical Challenges in Accessing the Lesbian-Feminist Archive of Patlatonalli (Mexico)", by Arcelia Esther Paz Padilla (University of Guadalajara), an in-depth look at ethical dilemmas surrounding access and anonimity in archives documenting Lesbian-Feminist community, with practices for respectful, visibility and autonomy (Tuesday, 10 June 2025, 14:30 - 15:30 CET Paris Time).

In the webinar's list we find "Archives, Diverse Memories, and Peacebuilding: Experiences from Communities, Territories and Identities". This webinar, organized by ALA, the ICA Latin American regional branch, offers diverse perspectives on how archives can serve as essential tools for inclusion, the recognition of diverse memories and the pursuit of historical justice. In this webinar we can follow, among other two, the presentation entitled "LGBTQ+ Collections and the Women and Gender Archive at the National Archives of Chile" by Emma de Ramón (National Archives of Chile and president of ALA). The webinar is Thursday, 12 June 2025, 17:00 - 18:30 CET Paris Time).

So enjoy a full week of archival meetings and build your own schedule. As Josée Kirps says: "Let's keep making archives accessible for everyone!"
